Visual Arts Residency

Our Visual Arts Residency supports two visual artists per season in experimenting with their craft and developing their focus or testing new ideas, while also engaging in vital public dialogue. This residency is also open to applicants whose work takes a broad range of forms, such as dance and movement-based practices, theatre and writing-based practices, and artists engaged in installation, sound, or other innovative media.

Resources will be designed to meet the needs of the residents and will include access to studio space, professional and creative support, and promotion.

We look for proposals for creative projects that are innovative, have a focus on social practice and are outward-facing. A key element is the connection the artist is interested in exploring between the germination and development of a rich creative idea, and its active life connecting with the community outside the artist’s studio. We are looking for artists whose practice demonstrates their capacity for doing this in an impactful way.

Eligibility:

Visual Artist Residents will be selected based on:

  • Excellence of proposed projects and public engagement ideas;
  • Quality of past work based on submitted work samples; and
  • Career history from narrative biography and resume.
